The BBNJ Agreement protects the biodiversity of almost half the planet: the waters that do not belong to any country. In January 2027, its States Parties will choose where its Secretariat will be based. Chile is proposing Valparaíso, and this site explains why it is a good idea.

The site is open to anyone wishing to contribute from diverse perspectives. We consider it a strength that people from different disciplines and backgrounds work together on research and proposals for ocean policy: “each perspective sheds light on a part of the ocean that the others cannot see”.
